Jah Roots—

ROOTS-REGGAE singer Jah Roots is preparing to release his latest singles — The Youth Dem Want Food and Free My Soul. The tracks, scheduled for this month, were recorded on his Inity Lion Production label.

According to Jah Roots, his songs are on the “inspirational and cultural” side.

“I am happy with myself and with the messages I deliver,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

In explaining the inspiration behind The Youths Dem Want Food, he said hunger is not limited to Jamaica and to food.

The 51-year-old said a lot of roots artists are not been given an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“We have a tendency to put roots aside. I have known a lot of brothers with great talent, they are authentic but because they are from the hills and not profiled a “certain way” they get left behind,” he said.

Born Clive McKerney in Spanish Town, St Catherine, Jah Roots started singing as a 13-year-old teenager.

Among his releases are Gone A Foreign, Tell Me Teacher (1992) and Clean Up Yuh Kingdom (1993). He also produced the album Children of the Black Emperor, featuring artistes including Benny Hill, Ratigan, Chubby Melo, Wolf Man.
