KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Scores of persons were sent running for cover in Half-Way Tree square, in St Andrew this afternoon after a man, believed to be of unsound mind, reportedly grabbed a policeman’s gun and began firing wildly.

When the shooting ended, three persons, including a woman clutching her infant child, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Eyewitnesses say the shooter was challenged minutes later by a team of police personnel and shot several times. He has been rushed to hospital.

According to one eyewitness, the policeman was writing a motorist a ticket when the man of unsound mind approached him and grabbed his firearm from its holster.
