The date is set for the fifth staging of the Braata Productions Fifth Anniversary Fundraising Gala. The acclaimed Braata Folk Singers of New York will continue their year-long celebrations with an award ceremony honoring outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in the arts, sports, business, and community service. Among the five awardees for this year is internationally acclaimed Jamaican actor Paul Campbell.

In a career spanning three decades, Campbell has managed to emerge as one of the most highly respected and most recognised Caribbean actors of his generation. His illustrious career has gained him international attention as the veteran actor has, over the years, received many awards and accolades for his performances, the Braata Award being the most recent.

Campbell burst onto the local film scene in 1997 as Priest in the movieDancehall Queen. Since then, he has appeared in numerous other productions, both locally and internationally, including ShottasThird World CopThe Lunatic, and Home Again. In his most recent role, Campbell will play the lead in the soon-to-be released film, Jamaican Mafia.

The other awardees are Team Jamaica Bickle, Rev Canon Dr Glenworth D. Miles, Brian Cunningham, and Michelle McLymont.

The 2014 Braata Productions Anniversary Gala is the latest in a series of events celebrating the organisation’s fifth year in existence, so in addition to the awards ceremony, the organisers have also decided to host a concert. Beginning at 8 p.m., Lloyd Lovindeer and the Braata Folk Singers will take on the task of delivering an evening of authentic Jamaican entertainment. All proceeds from the event will go towards the funding of Braata’s arts programmes.

The benefit event is set for September 13 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Centre in New York, USA.
