UP-AND-COMING singer Dexta Malawi has completed the filming of his latest music video Put On Ya Turban. Recorded on New Zealand-based label The Nomad Music, the video is slated to be released this month.
Put On Ya Turban, a tribute to the Bobo Shanti order of Rastafari, chronicles the artist’s spiritual journey.
“This song depicts some of the journeys and challenges of a Bobo Shanti in his aim to exist in righteousness, to promote education and repatriation, to preserve African heritage and to enjoy and preserve nature’s magnificence,” the 27-yearold told the Jamaica Observer.
In addition to Bobo Shanti, the other Rastafari orders include Nyahbinghi and Twelve Tribes. Dexta Malawi, (given name Leroy Omar Taylor), is employed as an engineer with the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).
“I’m all about doing educationally entertaining lyrics,” said Dexta Malawi, who added that he combines his love for music and knowledge. And his knowledge is vast.
In addition to graduating from the University of Technology as an engineer, he has certification in web design from Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in St Andrew, and an associate degree in video production from the Arnold Road-based Creative Production & Training Centre (CPTC).
Hailing from Cascade in St Ann, Dexta Malawi came to popular attention last year with Woke Up This Morning. He has subsequently released Mi Equipped and World Is In Trouble.
