EVEN when they have earned recognition abroad, many reggae artists feel unfulfilled until they get that breakthrough in Jamaica.
New York-born singer K Vibes/Brick Rose is eyeing Jamaican charts with Run to You and Fire, songs from her debut album, Rose Among Thorns.
The 14-song set was released in June. It also includes Reggae Music I am, produced by Lloyd ‘King Jammys’ James and Dance in The Dance (with General Trees) which did well in the Big Apple.
She is hoping a move to Kingston will improve her chances of getting a hit in Jamaica.
“It was very hard, but I found it easier since I recently moved to Kingston,” K Vibes/Brick Rose told Splash.
“For me, the move is one I had to make, not only for music but for a better living.”
Reggae Music I Am topped the Foundation Network Chart in New York in January. It is among a clutch of songs that have done well there for K Vibes/Brick Rose whose parents are Jamaican.
Born Karen Morrison, she started her career on the Sir Tommy’s sound system, operated by her older brother Howard Mapp.
Her first released song was Bye Bye Rebel for Studio One in 1991.
