A man who broke into a club/bar owned by reggae star Junior Reid and stole high end liquors, then sold them at a meagre price was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment yesterday.
Yesterday, when the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court, the accused man, 20-year-old Jevon Barnett of an Eastwood Park Road address, pleaded guilty to the offence.
Allegations are that on September 6, Barnett prised the door of Reid’s premises located on Eastwood Park Road, then entered and stole several high end liquor, including multiple bottles of Hennessy valued at $24,000, bottles of Ciroc valued at $40,000, a Grey Goose estimated at $9,500 and several bottles of Rose Moet valued at $56,000.
The loss was estimated to be close to $150,000.00.
Barnett then sold the liquor, allegedly to another bar operator for $8,000.00.
The court outlined that this accused bar owner, also has a case of receiving stolen goods to answer in court.
The investigation was aided by Junior Reid and the watchman for the property who said he saw Barnett leaving the premises on the night of the robbery.
A few days later, Barnett was spotted at a bar and Junior Reid contacted the police. That was when the developments were unearthed.
Barnett confessed to selling the stolen liquor to the bar operator for a meagre amount.
Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey then laid down her sentence.
Barnett’s fingerprints were also taken.
