Orisha Sound—

NORWAY-BORN, Jamaica-based reggae artist Orisha Sound is gearing up for the release of her latest single Gimmi The Beat, featuring Shel-K.

Produced on the Black and Yellow Entertainment label, the track is the first song from her sophomore 10-track album, 1 Reggae. Slated for December 2, the set is co-produced by South African Alexis Faku and Shel-K.

“Each week starting September 23, one track will be released,” the 25-year-old told the Jamaica Observer.

“Each song comes out very powerful and different. So I really wanted to highlight each. I am creating visual art for each song and a supporting video,” she continued.

The album contains the tracks One More Night, Rewine, Best of My Love, and Roller Coaster. She said

they should reasonate with listeners.

“Each track is inspired by some catastrophic event,” she said.

In her songs, she made reference to the abduction of more than 200 school girls by Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram, and the downing of a passenger plane over the Ukraine.

“I have lots of family living in Russia and Ukraine, so that song is very relevant and current,” she said.

Born Orisha Pelzer in Oslo, Norway, she is of Russian and Brazilian parentage. She grew up in Russia and was trained in the classics. She plays a number of instruments and prior to her reggae venture, toured Europe and the

United States as a singer/musician/dancer.

Her first album Cupid — mix of hip hop, dancehall and European techno — was released July 2013. She is known for singles including Embrace It (with Sizzla), Sunshine Lady (featuring singer Wayne Daniels) and Black Coffee.
