DANCEHALL artist Potiential Kid said he is no one hit wonder and is back to claim his rightful place.
In 2011, the deejay topped the charts with his comical single Ya So Nice, but faded from the scene a year later.
Now under a new management, Potential Kid — whose given name is Dwayne Taylor — is recording tracks for his upcoming debut album, Ghetto Paradise. Slated to be released during the first quarter of next year, the 27-track album will feature singles including Something Have to Go Leak and Ya So Nice. The set wil also include several cultural tunes.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, the entertainer explained the reason for his absence.
“My cousin was my manager and I went to England for three weeks. I earned several million Jamaican dollars, all of which were sent to her. I didn’t receive that money when I returned to the island. I even shipped down a Lexus and she sold it and took the money,” he said.
“It cut me really deep as she was not just anyone. She was family. I even recorded a song about it called Better Man,” he added.
According to the singjay, he never stopped recording. He said took a break from the local scene and travelled to St Lucia, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago to record. Songs ‘voiced’ included Wine Pon Di Riddim and System a Murder We.
Wayne Masters, who signed the Potential Kid to his Promo People label last month, said he saw the need to manage the artiste, who hails from the inner-city community of Wilton Gardens in St Andrew.
“Rema has a very rich music background, but all we often hear about is football. I wanted a breakthrough artiste and I think he is the right one,” said Masters.
“I am also ensuring that what happen in the past with him financially, does not repeat. The aim is to empower and educate him,” he continued.
