IN his travels across Jamaica, singer Salanyde Saffari noticed that each of its 14 parishes have something in common. They have a commercial hub — a downtown.
Saffari salutes these areas in Downtown, his new song which is produced by Greg Fusions Records out of Whitehall Avenue.
“The reality is that yuh can get everything in these areas. In Jamaica when wi hear downtown wi think negative but it’s not all bad, an’ dat’s the main reason for doing the song,” he explained.
The 28-year-old Saffari (born Sean Gordon) is from May Pen, one of Jamaica’s busiest commercial districts. He has been recording since 2007; most of his previous songs, including Jah Deliver Us and In Your Arms, were done in Cayman where he lived for six years.
Recently, he linked with Greg Stewart, head of Greg Fusion Records, who is also producing Forever Burning, an EP scheduled for release this month.
