GOSPEL singer Jermaine Edwards will be releasing his fifth studio album, Don’t Count Me Out, on November 28.
The 15-track effort is the follow-up to his 2012 effort Hideaway.
“Don’t Count Me Out is a reminder to us not to count anybody out, because God can turn around anyone’s state. Many times, people tend to judge others when they are in situations that are frowned upon,” Edwards told the Jamaica Observer.
Co-produced by Edwards and Christopher Wright, the set was mastered by Herb Powers.
Fellow gospel artists Kevin Downswell, Rondell Positive, Damion Orlando and gospel trio iWorship, are featured on the album.
Born in Kingston, the 35-year-old Edwards relocated to Spanish Town in St Catherine, where he attended Jonathan Grant High and later St Catherine High.
Although he originally wanted to become a mechanic, Edwards ended up teaching at the John the Baptist Preparatory School in Kingston.
“I no longer felt passionate about teaching and I went straight into my calling, which is music,” Edwards recalled.
He released his debut album Island Worship in 2004.
“The musical journey has had many challenges, especially as a gospel artist. Many limit our talent and put our creativity in a box. People believe that gospel should be old and traditional and do not believe that reggae gospel is appropriate gospel music. However, I wanted to do something different and step away from the stigma and to show the various ways that gospel music can be presented while still being authentic,” he explained.
The release of Don’t Count Me Out will see four events across the Kingston, Montego Bay, Mandeville and Savanna-la-Mar.
