With just a month to go before the world celebrates the 70th birthday of reggae legend Bob Marley, Universal Music Group has teamed up with the family of the late icon to release a DVD/CD set of the entertainer’s 1978 concert at Boston Music Hall.
Titled Bob Marley & the Wailers – Easy Skanking in Boston ’78, the collector’s item is due out on February 10. The video portion of the release, originally filmed by a fan at the June 8, 1978, concert, has been edited to fill gaps in the original footage with newly created animation, done and directed by S77 and Matt Reed, who have worked on music videos for artists like Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Cee Lo Green.
According to online sources, audio from Marley’s June ’78 shows have been available in bootleg form for years, but this is the first time it’s getting an official release.
Universal Enterprises is yet to release an official track list for the compilation, but many believe that songs performed by Marley at the 1978 show, including, The Heathen, Easy Skanking, I Shot theSheriff, and No Woman No Cry, will be included. Sources also claim that with Universal Group being granted exclusive access to previously undistributed and rare footage from Marley’s private collections, the DVD/CD will not be the only collector’s item to be released throughout the year. Other Marley releases planned during 2015 include deluxe editions of some of his classic albums augmented by previously unavailable bonus material.
