Dancehall artist Specialist has officially announced that he has parted ways with local record label, Downsound Records.“Mi want the people dem know say Downsound is not ready for music, and because of that they won’t get a giant artist who can step out hot like these artist that running the place and represent them,” he said. The deejay further said; “I was loyal. I sat there for almost four years and believed in them that they were gonna make it happen for me. But, in reality, they never believed in me so that goes to show that I was loyal to the wrong set of people because I only voiced at Downsound during those years.”
Specialist scored many hits during his time with Downsound Records. He first came to public attention with Phone Card, and followed up with Gallis Anthem, the monster hit Do For Love, featuring Ishawna, and Dweet, featuring Ninjaman.
“After four solid number-one hits at Downsound, I thought that would set we off in front but I don’t really know what happened. Anyway, after my three years contract was up, in August 2014, Sir Joe decided to not go any further so right now I am on my own managing myself until I find the right management team, so am free to voice for any producer now,” he said.
Specialist wants the public and potential promoters to know that Downsound is no longer responsible for his bookings.
“I want to get out there in the Caribbean and get my music out in the world,” he said.
Specialist has joined forces with the Denham Town-based 3R40 Records.
“They are basically a team of young youths who believe in me, and are enthusiastic about the music industry. So I want the fans to still give the support. we have some new thing to drop very soon,” he said.
