UP-AND-COMING singjay Slimmatic is currently riding high with the single Man Straight. The track, produced by Firelinks Production, is a collaboration with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer earlier this week, the 22-year-old explained how the collaboration came about.
“I was at the studio when [producer] TJ approached me with the song. I did my part and the song was released in September. The song put me on the musical path I was seeking, as the reviews so far have been great and my fan base has broadened,” she said.
Signed to Short Boss Music, Slimmatic’s given name is Chrisann McPherson. A younger cousin of Kartel, she said, taught her a lot about the music industry.
“He used to tell me that patience is a virtue and stay focus, work hard and be determined. The aim is to do more positive songs as lot of persons usually associate the ‘Gaza Camp’ with negativity but this is not so,” she said.
A past student of Penwood High School, Slimmatic grew up in Seaward Drive in St Andrew. She released her debut single called Girl Power in May of last year. This was followed by Follow Fashion and Love You.
