Reggae music will get another boost on the international scene, as local-based entity, Contractor Music Marketing (CMM), is getting ready to produce a weekly music news show that will air on Radio SRF 3 (Schweizer Radio and Fernsehen) in Switzerland.
The music news show will air during a weekly reggae show hosted by Lukas Wyniger, a well-known disc jock who has been associated with the genre for a number of years now.
Wyniger is also well known across Europe, where he has toured with several sound systems over the years.
While details of the show have not yet been released, it is expected that it will boost the presence of reggae music in Switzerland in particular and Europe in general.
Reggae is one of two passions for Wyniger, the other being running. He has participated in several marathons across the world, including Jamaica’s Reggae Marathon in Negril in December; the Boston Marathon, Helsinki Marathon, among others. His transformation since 2009, when he weighed over 220 pounds, and ate just about anything and smoked a pack of cigarettes per day, to now being a lean, running machine who competes in marathons, is becoming a well-known story.
He attributes his transformation to running and coupled with his love for reggae, as he journeyed to the island, with family and friends, to run the Reggae Marathon.
And as if experiencing his two passions in the sunny land of reggae was not enough, he has partnered with CMM to initiate this new project, scheduled to get off the ground later this year.
While in Jamaica, Wyniger also did some work for his reggae show back home, as he interviewed several Jamaican stars, visited Penthouse Studios and Irie FM.
Switzerland, like many other European countries, has a reggae following, rooted by such ’70s reggae stars as Toots Hibbert, Max Romeo, and contemporary artistes like Capleton, Queen Ifrica, Damian Marley, Tarrus Riley and others.
Switzerland also has its own reggae stars, among them Elijah, Constantin and Famara, whose works have helped promote the genre in that country and beyond its borders.
