TESSANNE Chin has never hid the fact that some of her earliest musical influences included old-school rhythm and blues sirens Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle.
Chin has blended those influences into her latest single Fire.
Fire was produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Fire was co-written by Chin.
“I love live music and we went around the piano while jamming in the studio, we pretty much had a canvas of what we wanted to work with and it all came naturally. It was a wonderful organic way to go back to the old school,” Chin told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
Released digitally, Fire was featured in the Clair Hair TV advertisement which aired during season eight of The Voice earlier this year.
Fire is the first single from Chin’s upcoming album and the follow up to 2014’s Count on My Love. Chin didn’t reveal the release date for the still untitled album.
Among those she has been collaborating with on the project are American rapper TI, American hip-hop producer Lil C, and Atlanta-based producers Phat Boyz.
She describes the feedback to Fire as being phenomenal.
“Everyone seems to love it and people are digging it. I’m an old soul who grew up on persons like Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin. The song is a soulful power anthem. It took me back to the music and to an era which I love and respect,” said Chin.
Chin has a handful of dates stretching from North America to the Caribbean. Later this month, she heads to Washington DC for a Memorial Day concert performing alongside a symphony orchestra. The concert will air on PBC. At month’s end she is scheduled to perform in Trinidad.
Chin’s major label debut Count on My Love released on Republic Records last July, opened at number 41 on the Billboard 200 album chart with first week sales of over 7,000 copies.
