NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — The Western Massachusetts music scene is in mourning following the deaths of a roadie and the drummer for a local reggae band in a traffic crash.

State police say Brian White of Hamden, Connecticut, was driving east on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Westfield on Sunday morning when his van went out of control and rolled over into the median. The 43-year-old White was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that White was a roadie for The Alchemystics, a Northampton-based reggae and hip-hop band.

The passenger was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The Alchemystics announced of their Facebook page that that passenger, Todd “Demse” Zullo, died Tuesday. The band called Zullo “our drummer, our founder, our heart, our brother, amazing husband and father.”

The crash remains under investigation.
