INTERNATIONAL recording artist Wayne Wonder will take center stage on Saturday night when the monthly concert series We Are Reggae continues at the Doctor’s Cave Beach in Montego Bay.
He will be supported by Montego Bay’s own Shawn Campbell.
Organisers say the series, which kicked off last month with veteran reggae singer Freddie McGregor as the main act, was a resounding success, adding that “that has raised expectations for the second concert in the unplugged series”.
Wayne Wonder, whose No Letting Go single peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the USA and number three in the United Kingdom, has not performed in western Jamaica for more than five years.
On Saturday night he is expected to score heavily with his many hits, including Saddest Day of My Life, Bounce Along and Bonafide Love.
We Are Reggae promoters Apostles of Production, comprising Patrick Casserly, Orlando Maxwell and Peter Lloyd, told the Jamaica Observer West that they are very excited to be hosting another top-flight reggae act for the second in the series.
“We Are Reggae presents the best of Jamaica’s musical icons,” Lloyd said.
“Showcasing these giants of the reggae and dancehall genre in an intimate setting under star-filled skies, at The Beach Bar on the beautiful white sands of the world-renowned Doctor’s Cave Beach, along the Hip Strip in Montego Bay, is experiencing reggae in paradise.”
Added Lloyd: “We are committed to presenting the best experience for our patrons, as well as Wayne Wonder and his team. We, like all Jamaicans and reggae/dancehall lovers worldwide, are very proud of our musical heritage and so We Are Reggae seeks to restore the live-music experience to its former glory.”
According to the organisers, tickets for the show are available at Fontana Pharmacies across Jamaica, and at The Beach Bar, Doctor’s Cave Beach, Montego Bay.
We Are Reggae continues at the Doctor’s Cave Beach on June 27 with reggae singer Sizzla.
