RENAISSANCE sound system’s Delano Thomas will be recognized at ASCAP’s (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Rhythm and Soul Music Awards slated for the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday.
He will be cited for the song 2 On by American singer Tinashe which samples Sean Paul’s international hit, We Be Burnin’.
The latter is co-written and co-produced by Thomas, Sean Paul, Cezar Cunningham, Craig ‘Serani’ Marsh, Michael Jarrett, and Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden.
“It’s an overwhelming feeling and I am truly happy. This award will assist in creating a lot of networks with other international producers and will help to push my entire career,” Thomas told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
This is Thomas’ second ASCAP award. His first came in April at the Pop Music Awards, also for We Be Burnin’.
We Be Burnin’ was first recorded for Marsden’s 40/40 label, but never released. It was the first single from Sean Paul’s 2005 Atlantic Records album, The Trinity.
Released in the summer of 2005, the single peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 in the UK.
The ASCAP Pop Music Awards honours its top members in annual shows in seven categories: Pop, Rhythm and Soul, Film and Television, Latin, Country, Christian, and Concert Music.
