Veteran sound engineer Delroy Thompson—

VETERAN sound engineer Delroy Thompson (aka Spider) died Wednesday morning at age 63.

According to Sabrina Edwards, a relative, he died at the Annotto Bay Hospital in St Mary of complications from a heart attack and stroke.

In a Facebook post, music producer Gussie Clarke said Thompson was ‘the master of mastering and his experience is irreplaceable and invaluable’.

Thompson was employed to Clarke’s Anchor recording studio since 2009. He had previously worked at Dynamic Sounds and Tuff Gong in Kingston.

During his long career, Thompson worked with countless brand artists led by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown and Alton Ellis.

His feel can also be heard on songs by Marcia Griffiths, the Heptones, Third World, Lovindeer, The Mighty Diamonds, Shabba Ranks, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, The Mighty Sparrow, Shaggy, Grace Jones, Fab Five, Mad Cobra (his nephew), The Congos, Yellowman, Beres Hammond, Prince Buster, Ken Boothe, Johnny Osbourne and Gregory Isaacs.

Delroy ‘Spider’ Thompson is survived by two brothers, two children and fiancée Angella.
