Shuga—

NOT much has been heard about singer Shuga in recent months. She says she is working on an EP and preparing for a European tour.

Shuga has been recording songs with producers Donovan Germain, Paul ‘Computer Paul’ Henton, Rohan ‘Sno Cone’ Fuller and the German company Silly Walks Discotheque label.

“Right now I am working on my EP with Penthouse, which VP Records will be releasing at the end of the summer. I have a new single out called Crime Scene (Johnny Dead) which is getting a lot of traction in the tri-state and Jamaica. I will be heading out to Europe for a month on the Get Vocal Tour. I have some dates confirmed in the US, so things are looking good,” Shuga told the Jamaica Observer.

Shortly after winning the Digicel Rising Stars competition in 2009, Shuga (Mitsy Natalia Campbell) joined Germain’s Penthouse Records, which is responsible for bringing artists such as Wayne Wonder and Buju Banton to prominence.

While some of her songs including 9.58, Give My Soul to Jah, Ride Di Riddim and Dat Nah Go Work, have got

their share of airplay, Shuga admits getting consistent radio play is tough.

“Music is global, and I get a lot of tweets on social media about my music being played all over the world daily. However, Jamaica matters. This is the home of reggae and I can’t look away from Jamaica regardless of the lack of airplay. I’m still working toward better. All in due time,” she said.
