ATLANTA, Georgia– –
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have made history by defeating defending champions the USA 2-1 in their CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final match at the Georgia Dome here Wednesday evening.
Vancouver Whitecaps’ Darren Mattocks opened the scoring in the 30th minute, while Houston Dynamo’s Giles Barnes added a second six minutes later with a superb free kick from 20 yards.
The USA got their consolation when Michael Bradley pounced on a spill by Jamaica goalie Ryan Thompson in the 48thminute.
The win marks the first time Jamaica are defeating US on home soil, and it’s also the first time they have made the final of the prestigious tournament.
It was Jamaica’s second win over the USA, having defeated them 2-1 in Kingston in 2013.
