HERB Must Legalise, the pro-ganja song from roots-reggae band Mystic Revealers, is scheduled for release in October. The digital launch of the song coincides with its music video, directed by Michael Cushnie.

Production on the song started last year at the Grafton studio of producer Mikey Bennett. It has slots by artists including Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal, Suzanne Couch and Canadian deejay Snow.

It was initially scheduled for release this month, but that has been pushed back for completion and premier of the video which was filmed in Kingston and Bull Bay, the band’s longtime base.

Mystic Revealers singer/guitarist and main songwriter Anthony ‘Billy Mystic’ Wilmot said Herb Must Legalise is not just another ‘free the herb’ song. He said it puts into perspective recent changes to the Jamaican law as it relates to Rasta and ganja.

“Even though it can no longer go on yuh record if the police hold yuh wid a small amount people mus’ realize the weed is not legalized; it’s de-criminalized,” he told the Jamaica Observer. “Yuh can still be fined, so in a way is jus’ the Government finding a way to mek a profit.”

Herb Must Legalize and Mystic Revealers are featured in the upcoming issue of High Times Magazine, a monthly publication dedicated to global legalisation of ganja.

In April, the Jamaican Government announced that under amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act, people in possession of up to two ounces of ganja cannot be arrested or given a criminal record. They can be fined and issued a ticket.
