Ghanaian reggae singer Black Prophet will be performing alongside Jamaica’s Leroy Smart in London. The concert, at the Hootananny Brixton, will have both reggae stars onstage on October 15..
The year has been good for Black Prophet who in August featured in the Chiemsee Summer Festival in Germany. The Chiemsee festival also featured dancehall star Sean Paul and Bunny Wailer.
Styled as ‘Ghana’s most prolific singer and songwriter of African Roots Reggae,’ Black Prophet (whose real name is Kenneth Wilberforce Zonto Bossman) has had high profile collaborations since going solo in 1988. Before his debut solo album No Pain No Gain he was with the Ola Williams band. Leading his own backing band Thunder Strike, he attracted attention with 2003’s Legal Stranger.
Some of his projects have involved Buju Banton, Dean Fraser, Lucky Dube, Yellowman and Rita Marley. On 2010’s Tribulations he featured Nigerian pop star 2face Idibia on ‘I got a Feeling’.
With his co-headlining the UK concert with Leroy Smart, the colourful Jamaican reggae star, Black prophet took to social media. ‘Looking forward to be in London performing at Hootananny,’ he posted.
Tickets for the Leroy Smart + Black Prophet concert are selling for between 15 – 20 pounds ($20 – $30).
