FREDRICK Smith is praying his debut single Better Prepare can help listeners get ready for the Lord’s coming.
Released in July, Better Prepare is produced by Sadat and has an accompanying video.
The 23-year-old , who performs under the moniker Minister Smith, said he was divinely inspired to pen the single.
“I was inspired by the Holy Spirit. I was in church one Sunday morning and the entire church was under the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit spoke to me saying that the people that are here, better prepare for coming of God,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Smith said the feedback so far has been encouraging, especially from the church community.
“So far, it has been a great journey for me as a Christian and as a gospel artist. People always commend me on my voice and the message that I am communicating,” he said.
Born in the east Kingston community of Rae Town, the fledgling gospel singer attended Vauxhall High.
He said he realised that gospel music was his calling from an early age.
“I was surrounded by gospel music because of my mother… I learnt to sing at a very young age and she encouraged me. Church members soon began noticing my talent,” he said.
Not motivated by financial rewards, Smith said he will continued using his music to reach out to people.
“If I can bring about positive change in at least one person’s life, I will be happy about it. I want people to be changed by my music and prepare for the coming of God,” Smith added.
