RETURNING TO HER ROOTS: Rihanna’s new album will be influenced by her Caribbean origins
The Bajan star has teamed up with her favourite Island hitmakers R City for her overdue Anti collection, which is due any day now.But R City’s Theron and Timothy Thomas, currently smashing it with their own hit Locked Away, have no idea what RiRi’s final product will sound like.Theron told me: “We definitely contributed to Rihanna’s album.
ROCK CITY: Timothy and Theron Thomas worked with RiRi on her new album
“We did some cool stuff and Rihanna is a cool person, good vibes, good energy.“Very talented from the Caribbean just like us – we are from St Thomas.“We have a whole new level of respect for her and she is tuned into the Caribbean vibe this time.”
The lads have already worked with Rihanna, 27, on past hits like Pour It Up.
But their latest RiRi collabs have a strong reggae and socca influence.Brother Timothy explained: “One of them in particular is tailor-made for Rihanna.
“If Rihanna doesn’t use it, I don’t see anyone else being able to record it outside of her.”
Having written for Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj too, R City are finally making a name for themselves with their current hit, which features Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.Theron said: “We grew up in the slums, so to be in the UK chart here is beyond a dream come true.
Adam Levine collaborated with Rock City on the hit Locked Away
Locked Away is for our parents. “Our father got locked up for five years and our ma held him down the whole time.“When my father came out of prison they stayed together.“It’s really cool how our story has inspired so many people.“And big up to Adam (Levine) for shining a light on us for real.”
BROTHERLY LOVE: There’s no sign of sibling rivalry between Theron and Timothy
Despite being brothers, there’s no Noel and Liam Gallagher-style rivalry behind the scenes.Theron laughed: “Our album cover is a picture of us as kids.“This has been our dream since forever. “OK, we definitely bump heads.“I’d be lying to you if I said everything was peaches and cream.“But we move past those things.”
If only those Oasis boys could do the same.
