Dancehall artist Dexta Daps was on Wednesday freed of criminal charges when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court.
His co-accused Essan Richards was also freed.
Dexta Daps, whose given name is Louis Grandison, was charged on April 27 at the Sangster International Airport following a scuffle with a group of police officers, videos of which went viral on social media.
He was charged with assault occasioning grevious bodily harm, resisting arrest, and using indecent language.
Both men were freed after attorney Peter Champagnie pointed out certain circumstances of the case to the court and suggested the may be dealt with through mediation.
Following a brief adjournment of the case, the prosecution announced it would not continue with the prosecution of the men and that all parties opted for mediation.
Dexta Daps and the cops reportedly got into the scuffle after the singjay intervened in the ticketing of his driver, who was parked in a ‘no parking’ zone at the airport.
