Jamaican artist OMI has achieved another international milestone with his smashing pop single “Cheerleader”, which was certified 2x platinum in the UK.
The Clarendon-born singer, 29, took to Twitter to make the announcement on Wednesday, and posted a picture of himself holding the double platinum plaque.
“2X PLATINUM in the UK! Thank YOU for making this possible. #Cheerleader #OMIarmy,” the post said.
In the UK, double platinum means that “Cheerleader” has sold over a million units in the country.
The BPI, which gives the certification in the UK also takes digital streams into consideration.
Cheerleader was first released in 2012.
A remix was released in 2014 and has gained global success in 2015.
“Cheerleader” reached number one in 20 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Germany.
The song was also named among Spotify’s Top 5 Global tracks for 2015 and was also nominated for Song Of The Year by the BBC Music Awards.
