COMING off what he considers the strongest edition of the Boom GT Taylor Reggae Christmas Extravaganza, promoter GT Taylor believes the annual gig deserves corporate support.
The show’s 15th renewal took place on Christmas Day at Independence Park in Black River, St Elizabeth, and drew what Taylor described as a “really strong crowd”.
“We’ve reached the point where we are now an event that can move a product or make a product. This is not just St Elizabeth anymore… we’ve got people coming from all over,” said Taylor in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Taylor, a disc jockey at Irie FM, first held ‘Extravaganza’ as a party at Hendricks Wharf in Black River in 2000. He said though he has approached corporate sponsors and the Jamaica Tourist Board for support, they have not responded favourably.
“It’s really frustrating, because with added sponsorship I would be able to take the show to another plateau,” he said. The Boom energy drink has been Extravaganza’s main sponsor for the past four years. Hotels throughout St Elizabeth and small businesses in Black River act as associate sponsors.
Like previous years, last week’s event showcased a mixed cast of contemporary and old school acts. A local charity will benefit from the show
