IT may have been one of 2015’s biggest hit songs, but singer Tonieka Thompson was apprehensive when approached to cover Adele’s Hello.

“My manager (Laurence Warren) brought the idea to me. I was a bit edgy about it at first because I’ve never done a cover before, but once I tried it I loved it,” said Thompson.

Her version of Hello is done for the Clarendon-born Warren’s Black 90 Records, an independent company in the United Kingdom.

It is the latest release by the 26-year-old Thompson who was born in Guyana, but has lived in Barbados for over 10 years.

Her previous songs include Exchange, which she did with Barbadian soca star Peter Ram. That is the most popular of the productions she has done since launching her recording career eight years ago. Most of Thompson’s time as an artist has been spent performing on the Barbados hotel scene. Exchange and Hello have paved the way for more recording in 2016.

“I am coming to Jamaica next to do recordings and videos. We will be working with the best Jamaican musicians so I’m looking forward to that,” she said.
