On Saturday, January 2 at the Shaggy and Friends show, Nadine Sutherland returned to the stage after her hiatus from performing on any major shows in Jamaica, while pursuing a master’s degree in cultural studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. She proved to all who saw her performance what Bob Marley detected in her during her childhood as he facilitated her early introduction to the music business in Jamaica.
As Sutherland entered the stage, the beautiful singer, dancer and songwriter, dressed by Jamaican designers drennaLuna, was given a rapturous welcome by the audience. In her short, dynamic stint that included Terror Fabulous, Sutherland displayed her pristine vocals and commanding performance skills, the crowd rocking as she sexily sashayed across the stage.
Last year, while her master’s dissertation was in its completion stages, Sutherland travelled to London to work with Mad Professor, international dub producer. She recorded the single, Inna Mi Blood, which spent four weeks at number one at the Clinton Lindsay’s Foundation Radio Network Chart and was in the top five as one of the top songs for 2015. The video for Inna Mi Blood is set to be released in early 2016, along with the video for Dance Africa, another Sutherland song gaining momentum in global reggae markets.
With her academic goals accomplished, Sutherland is back to her passion, which is singing and performing.
