Singer Frankie Paul is recuperating after undergoing surgery to remove a portion of his leg.
His friend, veteran deejay Peter Metro, confirmed Paul underwent a major operation.
“Yeah man, him foot cut off. A last night (Tuesday) mi see him a Jungle (Arnett Gardens),” Metro told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
He did not know which hospital the operation took place or what foot was affected.
Frankie Paul’s — who rarely performs in Jamaica — last appearance was on Startime at Mas Camp in St Andrew, two Saturdays ago. He was assisted on stage by handlers and did part of his abbreviated set sitting in a chair.
Frankie Paul called into the Foundation Radio Network with Clinton Lindsay, to confirm the operation and to express his disappointment in Peter Metro going to media with the story. Paul told the veteran broadcaster that his voice is intact and he will be fitted by with prosthetic. During the 40-minute interview, Paul assured his fans that he is out of the hospital and was getting ready to go on the road. His first date is in San Diego, California.
Born with a vision impairment, Paul (whose given name Paul Blake) ruled the 1980’s with hardcore dancehall tracks, including Cassanova, Worries In The Dance, I Know The Score and Sarah.
Several efforts to reach him yesterday were unsuccessful.
