The thanksgiving service for singer Althea Layne-Hamilton takes place tomorrow at Siloah Primary School in St Elizabeth.
Layne-Hamilton, who recorded and toured as a background vocalist for many years with artists such as Gregory Isaacs, Buju Banton, Luciano and Sizzla, died in January at age 46 in St Elizabeth, her home parish.
She had battled cancer for 10 years, her husband Cegrica ‘Soljie’ Hamilton told Splash.
Saxophonist/producer Dean Fraser worked on a number of projects with Layne-Hamilton including albums and songs by Luciano and Tarrus Riley.
“Althea just loved to sing. She was dedicated to music. Even when she was sick, Althea was doing shows,” said Fraser.Layne-Hamilton sang on countless songs including How Can You by Luciano and Riley’s massive hit, She’s Royal. She also recorded as a solo artist. Among her songs were covers of Patsy Cline’s Crazy and the Sade original, I Still Love You.
Althea Layne-Hamilton is survived by her husband, three children, parents, three sisters and a brother.
