Sister Marion, who, as Lady Saw dominated the United States tri-state region for over 20 years, makes her overseas gospel debut there later this month.
She is scheduled to do three shows alongside Stitchie in New York and Connecticut March 25-27.
The first show takes place at Family Partnership Center in Poughkeepsie, followed by a gig in Hartford, Connecticut at West Indies Social Club on the 26th.
The final show is in the Bronx at Evander Childs High School.
Douglas Laughman, publicist for the shows, told the OBSERVER ONLINE that response has been tremendous.”We are extremely excited to host Lady Saw now Sister Marion and Stitchie, two talented dancehall acts who are now serving God. This will be Lady Saw’s first performance in the tri-state area performing as a gospel artist and we plan to make all three events memorable. Understand that New York is a regular stomping ground for Lady Saw, so when we reached out to her soon after her conversion she gladly accepted,” said Laughman.
The 43-year-old Lady Saw’s much-publicized conversion to Christianity took place in December. She was baptized at the Emmanuel Apostolic Church on Slipe Road in Kingston.
She made her name as a hardcore dancehall act during the late 1980’s and 1990’s. Many of her shows took place in the tri-state region (which also includes New Jersey) which has a massive West Indian and dancehall following.
Most of Lady Saw’s popular songs and albums including 1996’s Give Me A Reason were distributed by VP Records which has headquarters in Queens, New York.
