Menelik McClymont was reportedly stabbed in Kingston, Jamaica, on Feb 27
FOUNDATION: Reggae star Luciano—
REGGAE STAR Luciano and his family are planning to set up a foundation in memory of his murdered son, Menelik McClymont.
Sonia Sterling, Menelik’s stepmother, said the family will focus its attention on establishing a foundation to speak out against violence in a bid to keep his memory alive.
Menelik was reportedly stabbed in the vicinity of Parkington Plaza in Kingston, Jamaica on February 27. He died from his injuries in hospital hours later.
“He was too important to us, too special for him to just go like that, so after the funeral we are thinking of starting a foundation in his name,” Sterling said.
“I want to maybe do a little show, or something, and donate the funds to this foundation so we can help people affected by acts of violence. We have not thought through how the whole thing will work, but we know we want to do something that people will remember him by.”
Sterling told The Jamaica Star the family is planning on giving McClymont a send-off befitting a blossoming star.
“Three weeks ago him say to me, ‘Mummy, I’m going to be famous,’ so I want to give him a send-off to remember, one a star would get. He would’ve loved that.”
Though the final arrangements have not been finalised, the family revealed it was thinking of April 3 as a possible date for the funeral service.
“We were originally thinking of March 27, but that would be in the middle of the Easter celebrations so now we’re thinking of April 3,” Luciano said.
“Menelik was a nice, jovial youth, very God-fearing, so we want to put him to rest the right way.”
