Singer Mighty Mystic scores his second entry on the Billboard Reggae Album chart this week with the 15-track set The Art of Balance, which debuts at number seven.

The album has songs produced by Josh Wilkie, the Hard Roots Movement and Stephen ‘Thunder’ Holness. Born Kevin Holness in Goshen, St Elizabeth, Mighty Mystic is the younger brother of Prime Minister Andrew Holness. He has been singing professionally since 2006.

Raised in Boston, he said he was exposed to different genres of music in that city.“I was fortunate to be exposed to hip hop, R&B, rock, jazz, punk, you name it. With that in mind when I do my brand of reggae I try to add as much of outside music that influenced and shaped me. Hence, I call my style of reggae Hard Roots,” he explained. “it’s edgy, different and the element of razor-sharp lead guitar really cuts through.”

While most of his music is done in-house, Mighty Mystic has worked with top producers such as Tony Kelly who produced Mr Big Man; and Arif Cooper on Slipped Away.

His debut album, Wake Up The World, was released in 2010. The second, Concrete World, followed in 2014. The latter reached number six on the Billboard Reggae Album chart.

Mighty Mystic recently completed a two-week tour of the United States West Coast. He said being the brother of the prime minister has had little impact.

“Andrew has a job to do and so do I. We both have our own mission to complete.”
