Reggae Sumfest has been called “the heart-throb of summer,” and you’ll likely find that more than your heart will be throbbing in Montego Bay. The pulsating nature of this festival combined with the colorful flavor of this soulful island makes for an enhanced sensual experience. The first restaurant I ever created was a Jamaican spot called Miss Pearl’s Jam House, so when I make it to Reggae Sumfest (and I plan to), it will be partly to enjoy the delectable cuisine of Jamaica. If you make the trek, don’t feel like you have to stay in the resort-y Montego Bay once Sumfest is over.

I’m a big fan of the rural southern part of the island where you can stay at Jake’s at Treasure Beach and enjoy popping pepper shrimp in your mouth and butterflies filling the air. It’s a nice respite after having moved your body like a 15-year old at Sumfest.

If you’re going to visit Jamaica, you may as well do it during its quintessential music event.
