REGGAE legend Toots Hibbert is expected to make his live show comeback on June 26 at Groovin In The Park in Queens, New York.
Chris Roberts, CEO of promoters Groovin Inc, confirmed Toots’ appearance in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
“Having Toots perform at Groovin 2016 is a big, big deal for us. We are elated and positive we are on to something gigantic,” said Roberts.
Toots was originally booked to perform at Groovin In The Park in 2013, but withdrew after sustaining a head injury in May that year at the Dominion River Rock Festival in Richmond, Virginia.
He has not performed on a major event since. William C Lewis, the man who threw the bottle that injured Toots, received a six-month jail sentence. The Richmond Dispatch newspaper reported last month that the singer and Venture Richmond, promoters of the Dominion River Rock Festival, agreed on an undisclosed settlement.
Toots had sued Venture Richmond for US$20 million on grounds that they were ‘negligent in planning security and alcoholic beverage sales’.
Beres Hammond has also been confirmed for the sixth Groovin In The Park which takes place at Roy Wilkins Park.
