AFTER a one-year absence from the Jamaican concert calendar, Mother’s Day show — To Mom With Love — returns on Sunday, May 8.
According to promoter Marvin ‘Horseman’ Pitterson, patrons are in for a wonderful evening of music.
“We’ve booked American R&B groups Main Ingredient and The Three Degrees as headliners,” he told the Sunday Observer on Friday.
“We chose them because we wanted two groups that never performed in Jamaica before. They also have a whole heap of hit songs that will keep patrons entertained.”
The Main Ingredient is best known for their 1972 hit Everybody Plays the Fool. Their other well known songs comprise Just Don’t Wanna Be Lonely, I’m So Proud and Summer Breeze. The all-female trio, The Three Degrees’ catalog comprises When Will I See You Again, Woman In Love, Maybe, Take Good Care of Yourself, and Dirty Old Man.
Complementing the American groups are local acts George Nooks, Leroy Sibbles, Gem Myers and Patrick Badoo. Pitterson said the venue for the concert is yet to be confirmed but it’ll be held at a new location.
“We’re looking at Jamaica House or Hope Gardens. We’ll definitely known later in the week,” he said.
The last set of concerts were held at the LIME Golf Academy in New Kingston. “People complained they took an hour to get in, so we’ll be changing that,” he said.
Last year, To Mom With Love took a year off after bad reviews due to Ray ‘Eye Patch’ Sawyer’s (formerly of Dr Hook) performance the year before.
“We took a hit in 2014. The problem was Sawyer… he had a little bit too much to drink. However, the other acts on that show did well… Dorothy Moore and Glen Jones. But we decided to take a break,” said Pitterson.
Started in 2002, To Mom With Love has brought several international acts to Jamaica including Dionne Warwick, Air Supply, Jerry Butler and Percy Sledge.
