DUANE Stephenson recently returned from Nicaragua where he did four shows.
The singer performed in the capital, Managua (March 17), Bluefields (March 20), Corn Island (March 19) and Puerto Cabezas (March 23).
Stephenson is the first Jamaican reggae artist to perform in the latter regions. South African singer Lucky Dube was the first reggae act to play there in 2006.
“It was my first time performing in Nicaragua. Reggae is an emerging genre there in general, and for Corn Island and Puerto Cabezas it was a pleasure being the Jamaican pioneer performer. The response was great for all four events and even with a change of venue for one event the people still came out in large numbers,” said Stephenson, who is planning a return to the Central American country in June.
After his dates in Nicaragua, Stephenson went to Costa Rica for the April 9 Fyah Red event alongside Tarrus Riley in the capital San Jose.Stephenson is currently working on songs for his fourth album, to be released later this year. He also has two new singles out,
