SunCity, which operates from the Portmore Pines Plaza in St Catherine, is owned and operated by Mother in Crisis, a non-governmental organisation founded in 2003. Initially, SunCity radio operated from Billings’ home in Braeton. “It is a tremendous feeling to be granted this opportunity. We have been awaiting this for a very long time, so this is definitely one of SunCity’s dreams come true,” added Billings.

The radio station recently concluded its SunCity High School Disc Jock Competition in partnership with the police’s Community Safety and Security Branch. SunCity visited 18 high schools between January and March, allowing students to represent their school in disc jock face-off competitions. DJ Murphy of Eltham High School placed first, with DJ Kris of Papine High taking second, and DJ Kano of Kingston College taking third.

SunCity Radio is slated to begin its broadcast in western Jamaica in late May 2016
