The entertainer best known as a mento and ska performer and songwriter died in Canada last Tuesday. Rudy Isaacs, the brother of late singer Gregory Isaacs, remembers Lord Tanamo (Joseph Abraham Gordon) as a great singer.
Tanamo, who born in Kingston on October 2,1934, enjoyed hits as the lead vocalist for The Skatalites, such as “I’m In The Mood For Ska”, in 1965. He was an established mento star, who then moved to R&B before beginning his ska and reggae career.
Meanwhile, IRIE FM’s veteran Broadcaster, Bob Clarke says Lord Tanamo was one of the pioneers of Jamaican music.Lord Tanamo who has been based in Canada for over thirty-five years, died at 82.
