The compilation album First Class Rock Steady debuts at number two on the Billboard Reggae Album chart.
Released by VP Records to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the rocksteady genre, the 14-song set contains several classics including Take It Easy by Hopeton Lewis, which kicked off the rocksteady craze in 1966.
Val Bennett’s instrumental The Russians Are Coming and The Melodians’ Last Train To Expo ‘67, are also included.
Rocksteady produced some of Jamaica’s most influential singers and songwriters in a prolific three-year run.
Most of the hit songs from that period were produced by the rivals Studio One and Treasure Isle studios.
