The former Trinidadian minister of national security, Gary Griffith, was a guest on the drive-time show on Power 102 FM.
However, it was comments made by the host, Barrington ‘Skippy’ Thomas, that drew the ire of one Jamaican caller in particular.
The disgruntled Jamaican caller in an apparent attempt to defend his homeland said: “If you remove right now all the Jamaicans dem outa here you’ll be still having crime because crime have been happening here, so is we as Trinidadians here doing wi things and wi looking for somebody as a excuse.”
“Mi no even know ’bout dat, mi no even know bout guns. When mi deha Jamaica mi nuh even know ’bout gun,” he further said.
“Here is the first place I come and experience mi place get broken into, mi get tied up in ma own house,” said the caller.
At this time the talk show host interrupted by saying: “you coming across as a bully now, that is it thanks”, while disconnecting the call.
The talk show host went on to say: “I expect the immigration officers at PIARCO (Piarco International Airport), and elsewhere, to be even more stringent wid how much of these nuisances and pests, and threateners and criminal elements, they allow to come on our shore”.
He further said: “They have a strong influence on the crime in the community, the police know it, so callers who might … you in the university lecturing, that caller when he leave, he might go home to his house in Westmoorings or wherever, that other Jamaican caller is calling his criminal friends in Jamaica to monitor me and attempting to intimidate me, he may be safe based on what he does.”
