The South African Government is calling for all its citizens to play and buy local music in a bid to contribute to the economy of their country.
The move comes following an initiative by South African Radio Stations to Play 90 Percent Local Music.
The government has since congratulated the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) regarding its decision to play 90% local music across its 18 radio stations going forward.
The decision is part of the public broadcaster’s bid to prioritize home-grown content.
According to AllAfrica.com, “it is an effort to ensure that local content reflecting the diversity of South African cultures is prioritized.”
