“Age is nothing but a number,” may be a trite saying but for one Hubert Evans, it carries an enormous amount of truth.

Evans, an 87-year-old Jamaican man, received his Bachelor’s degree from the Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn on May 24, ABC 7 TV station reports.

This has made him the oldest to ever receive a degree under the City University of New York (CUNY) system.

According to ABC 7 TV station, officials at the school say Evans is an inspiration.

But for Evans, it was a great deal of hard work.

“It didn’t take me much for the associates, but when I started for the full Bachelors, then I had to really work hard,” Evans said.

The father of seven, grandfather to 11 and great-grandfather of five lauds his professors for helping him along the way.

“They always encourage you to keep on fighting, and don’t be late for the class, and do your homework,” Evans said.
