Gospel entertainer DJ Nicholas is promising a lot of new music and more when he takes the stage at the Credit Union Jamaica Gosplash 2016 set for Sugarman’s Beach in Portmore, St Catherine, on August 1.
The gospel artist revealed he is also looking forward to performing with Pastor Deitrick Haddon, a man who opened doors for him in the United States when he was a virtual unknown there. DJ Nicholas and Pastor Haddon first appeared together on the Black Entertainment Network (BET) Celebration of Gospel special that first aired in January this year. The special is still being aired on the network.
Through that connection, Nicholas was able to find a niche in the USA.
“Coming out of Jamaica it is difficult getting onto an American stage,” he said. “So performing with Dietrick was a great experience, as he introduced me to the media.”
Nicholas appears on a song by the celebrity pastor called On My Way, from his album, Masterpiece. He has every intention of performing the song with Pastor Haddon during the summer gospel festival.
The US-based DJ Nicholas also revealed that the bulk of the songs he will perform will come from his new album that he intends to release near the end of July. The songs, he said, will be timely, given what has been happening with the spiraling crime rate, poverty and a pervasive sense of hopelessness which is having a deleterious effect on Jamaicans.
“It’s a good time to draw closer to the Creator,” he said, adding that Gosplash is the perfect place to begin that process.
“Gosplash is a unique event,” he reasoned. “It is on the beach, so the people who attend wouldn’t necessarily attend a gospel concert, they can also come and swim and enjoy the beach.”
While there, he said, they can get closer to the Lord.
