Several dancehall artists are condemning Sunday’s killing of 49 persons and injuring of 53 others inside a Florida gay club.

Among them are Ninjaman who described the incident as tragic.

“This is really a tragic event. Whether the victims are gay or not, it is fifty lives that were snuffed out and another 53 injured. I don’t know the reason why they were killed and I am not quick to say it is because they are gay, but it is sad. A life is a life regardless of a person’s race or sexual orientation,” Ninjaman told the Jamaica Observer.

“It is unfortunate that a man is going to decide to cast his own judgement and kill so many people. It is wrong to take a life,” Ninjaman continued.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Ninjaman’s female counterpart Macka Diamond.

“I am definitely against any hate killings and a lot of lives were lost. My heart goes out to the victims loved ones. And, for us, as entertainers who work in clubs, it scares me,” she said.

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, gunman Omar Mateen went on a shooting rampage at a Florida gay nightclub and left 49 dead. He was subsequently shot and killed by law enforcement officers. The incident has gone down as the worst mass shooting in US history.
