  • Mike Cacia—

Reggae pioneer and HEARTBEAT RECORDCS co-founder MIKE SCOTT CACIA lost his battle from complications due to diabetes in NEGRIL, JAMAICA, where he spent his final days.

According to his former wife SAMANTHA DENISE BINKLEY: “MIKE was a great lover of music, especially reggae, and aspired to be a radio DJ in his youth. He was a kind man and a friend to all who is loved by so many and he had friends around the world who are feeling this loss. MIKE was a one of a kind, never to be forgotten.”

After graduating with a degree in mass communications from EMERSON COLLEGE in BOSTON, MIKE began working in reggae. He was connected to JAMAICA for life after making his first trip there in the late ’70’s, when he came to sign artists on behalf of the newly formed HEARTBEAT RECORDS, which he co-founded.

  • As a label A&R and show promoter, CACIA began importing JAMAICAN artists to perform in the U.S. and was the first to bring EEK A MOUSE to the STATES. Over the last 30+ years, he worked in music and television through the groundbreaking TV show “Rockers” — mco-created and co-produced with his friend EARL CHIN — as well as working closely with GREGORY ISSACS. MIKE was responsible for booking many reggae artistes for overseas shows including JUNIOR REID, MORGAN HERITAGE, ROOTZ UNDERGROUND the FEAR NUTTIN BAND.Reflecting on his friend, TOOTS HIBBERT said “I have known MIKE for over 30 years and he was my very dear friend who became my manager and we worked together for over 20 years. He traveled the world with me and I will miss him very much – we will all miss him for a very long long time. MIKE loved reggae music and he loved my music extraordinarily. It is great loss and we want to give our condolences to his family and friends all over the world. I spoke to him two days before he died and connected him with his daughter to speak with her as well so he had a chance to say goodbye. His wish was to spend his final days in JAMAICA and he got that wish… may his soul rest in peace perfect peace.”

CACIA is survived by his daughter ZOELLE MAE CACIA, three sisters and three brothers and countless friends around the world. His body will be cremated and a memorial service is being planned by his family for SAN DIEGO, where he lived for the 15 years prior to relocating to JAMAICA in 2015.
