Remembered mostly for his hit single, The Drifter, in 1967 and his mega international hit single, Margaret, produced by Harry Mudie in 1974, which was rivaled only by Bob Marley’s Small Axe, as it consistently held the number two spot on the International Music Charts in 1975.
Other popular singles include Navel String and Almighty High, both produced by Joe Gibbs. The pioneering artist is now poised to aggressively revamp his career with a series of new releases and upcoming major performances both locally and internationally.
Dennis Walks, whose real name is Dennis Vassell, still tours extensively, and continues to record for various labels locally and internationally.
He has compiled a vast musical catalog, which he now plans to strategically release over the course of this year, since working intricately with New York-based recording label Summit Hill Records, as well as other local and international labels.
“I have been in this business for so many years and I’ve seen the music evolve over time. I still do have a lot of creative energy still within me and as such, I am still producing more authentic roots reggae as I have always been. I also do believe that my status as an artiste back then was seriously hampered by bad business practices on the part of many producers, who unfairly compensated the artists who recorded for their labels, as it is a fact that back then, there wasn’t much consideration for our intellectual rights. I am now ready to revitalize my career under the right team of music industry professionals, which I now have in place,” he said.
