Only You, a collab between American singer Mya and reggae singer Jah Cure, is slated to be released later this month.
Co-producer Justus Arison spoke to the Jamaica Observer about the project.
“Jah Cure’s verses were recorded in Jamaica and Mya’s part of the song in Los Angeles… The process took quite a few months as we put a lot of time into the actual building of the rhythm. The video is almost ready so we will be releasing it and the song to the public at the same time,” he said.
Producers Andrew ‘Anju Blaxxx’ Myrie (UIM Records), Tristan Boston (Fire Hazard Productions); Jack Spade music and Arison’s JA Productions are credited on the project.
“It was a great experience for everyone involved working with both music legends, Jah Cure and Mya. We are all fans of their work and it’s nice when you meet people who are such big stars but still down to earth and cool as people,” he said.
Mya, 36, worked with Beenie Man on his remix of Girls Dem Sugar from his 2000 Grammy-winning Art and Life album. Last year, she teamed up with Vincentian singer Kevin Lyttle for the dance track, Bum Bum.
“I’m not sure if she has a new project in the making but hopefully it will make her album if she does. Mya definitely seems to be a big fan of Jamaican music,” Arison added.
A native of Washington DC, Mya was listed by Billboard as one of the Hot 100 Artists of the 2000s. She has a Grammy and sold seven million albums worldwide.
